Belles Tie for Tenth at Kathy Niepagen Spring Fling

NORMAL, Ill. - The Saint Mary's golf team posted a 322 at Illinois Wesleyan's annual Kathy Niepagen Spring Fling on Saturday at Ironwood Golf Course.
 
No. 7 ranked Grinnell won the weather-shortened tournament with a 309 on Saturday. St. Catherine and host No. 19 Illinois Wesleyan tied for second with matching scores of 313. No. 20 ranked Wisconsin - Oshkosh placed four with a 314. The Belles tied with Wisconsin - Stout for tenth place as 13 strokes separated the top 11 teams at the event.
 
Illinois Wesleyan's Jordan Koehler and DePauw's Larisa Luloff both had the low individual round of the event with 73s.
 
Hunter Kehoe led the Belles with a three-over par 75 and finished tied for third. Kehoe had a birdie on par five No. 11 and was one-over par on the front nine. The sophomore posted 13 pars with no scores above a bogey. Lauren Read turned in an 81 and had a share of 38th place. She was four-over par on the front nine and had 12 pars on the day.
 
Hannah Finley shot an 82 on Saturday to tie for 45th overall. She was four-over par on the front nine and had a birdie on par four No. 1. Finley had nine pars in the round. Summer Stillson wrapped up the team score with an 84 and finished in a tie for 54th. She had seven pars on the day. Sydney Hruskoci was the fifth golfer in the lineup for Saint Mary's and posted an 86 to tie for 64th. Six of her nine pars came on the front nine.
 
Maggie Sexton competed as an individual at the event as she shot an 83 and tied for 50th. The freshman had a team-best two birdies - one on the par three No. 13 hole and one on the par five No. 17 hole. She was four-over on the back nine and had five pars in her round.
 
With the cancellation of day two of the Kathy Niepagen Spring Fling, the Belles are in action again on Tuesday, April 16 when they travel to Saugatuck, Michigan for the first MIAA NCAA Automatic Qualifying round. The first 18 holes of play are hosted by Hope at the Ravines Golf Club as the event begins at 1:00 p.m.
