Belles Sit in Tie for Fifth at Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. - The No. 16 ranked (Women's Golf Coaches Association) Saint Mary's golf team posted a team score of 318 on day one of the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational to hold a share of fifth place.
 
No. 7 New York University leads the field of 21 teams after turning in a 300 on day one of the three-day event. No. 14 Carnegie Mellon sits in second place after a 302 while No. 12 Methodist is third with a 304. Nine of the top 25 ranked teams in Division III women's golf are competing at the event as No. 5 Rhodes (311) sits seven strokes ahead of Saint Mary's and Huntingdon College.
 
Three players - Carnegie Mellon's Yedin Lui and Catherine Yu along with Methodist's Morgan Bowen - lead the field individually after posting one-over par 73s.
 
Summer Stillson led the Belles on day one with a three-over par 75 and is tied for sixth place individually in a field of more than 100 golfers. The sophomore had a one-under par front nine, which included birdies on the first, fourth, and seventh holes. She added a birdie on the 11th hole and was tied for the lead in par four scoring (-1). Hunter Kehoe posted an even-par 36 on the back nine and finished the round with a five-over 77 for a share of 16th place individually after 18 holes of golf. She carded birdies on the 11th and 14th holes before closing out the round with four consecutive pars.
 
Sydney Hruskoci shot an 82 on the day for 49th place individually. The freshman had a birdie on the par-three second hole and posted six pars on the back nine and was tied with eight other players for third in par three scoring. Lauren Read wrapped up the team score with an 84 to hold a share of 66th overall as the junior was one-over par in par-five scoring in the round.
 
Tayloe Kehoe posted an 85 as the Belles' fifth player in the lineup as the senior is currently tied for 74th place individually. She opened up the back nine with three consecutive pars on her way to a four-over after making the turn.
 
Hannah Finley and Maggie Sexton are both competing as individuals for the Belles as the pair turned in matching scores of 85 and are tied for 74th place overall. Finley had a birdie on the second hole and carded six pars in the round. Sexton tallied ten pars on the day - five on the front nine and five on the back nine - to tie for 17th among all players for total pars in the round.
