Belles Earn NCAA Championship Berth After Final Round Canceled

GRANGER, Ind. - Snow, rain, and ongoing poor conditions resulted in the suspension and ultimate cancellation of the final 18-hole round of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) NCAA Automatic Qualifier at Knollwood Country Club on Saturday.

All five groups were midway through the round as the lead group was preparing to make the turn from nine to ten at Knollwood Country Club's East Course before play was stopped. After consultation with all coaches and administrators, it was mutually agreed upon to cancel the remainder of play. Since 18-holes were not played to completion, no scores from Saturday's round were kept.

As a result of the cancellation of the round, host Saint Mary's earned the MIAA's automatic bid to the 2019 NCAA Championship Tournament in May since the Belles had the lowest 36-hole score (645) entering today's round. Calvin finished in second place with a two-round total of 706. Hope was third (716), and Albion placed fourth (736).

It is the second consecutive season the Saint Mary's golf team has secured the MIAA automatic bid to the national tournament.

Next up for the Belles is the 2019 NCAA Division III Championship. The tournament takes place May 14-17 at Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston, Texas.
