Belles in 19th at NCAA Championships

HOUSTON, Texas - The Saint Mary's golf team currently sits in 19th place after the first day of the 2019 Division III NCAA Championships at Bay Oaks Country Club.
 
Redlands posted a 306 to hold a one-stroke lead on Tuesday. Methodist and DePauw both shot rounds of 307 to tie for second place, and Williams is in fourth place with a 309.
 
Bailey Plourde from Centre, who is competing as an individual, leads the individual chase for a national championship as she shot a one-under par 71. Taylor Beckwith from Whittier, who is also competing as an individual, is in second with a one-over par 73.
 
Sydney Hruskoci and Hunter Kehoe each shot rounds of 81 to lead Saint Mary's and are tied for 57th overall. Hruskoci was five over on the back nine and finished strong on the front nine with a birdie one the par three No. 8 and a par on her final two holes. She had nine pars and had an even scoring average on par three holes. Kehoe had the best front nine score for the team as the sophomore posted a one-over score during her final nine holes as the team teed off on number ten. Kehoe had nine pars on the day and a birdie on the par four No. 9 to wrap up her round.
 
Summer Stillson shot an 89 and was tied for 96th overall in the field. The sophomore was four-over on the front nine. She posted five pars over her final nine holes of play. Maggie Sexton wrapped up the team score with a 90 and sits in 101st place overall. The freshman had eight pars in her round. Hannah Finley posted a 92 and is tied for 109th overall. She had two pars on the back nine and carded a birdie on the par three No. 3 hole.
 
Day two of the NCAA Championship begins at 7:50 a.m. CDT for the Belles as the team tees off on hole No. 1 on Wednesday.
