NORMAL, Ill. - The Saint Mary's golf team turned in a team score of 318 and finished in seventh place in the tightly contested Illinois Wesleyan Fall Classic.
Washington University in St. Louis shot a 296 to win the team title with a 602. Denison fired a 297 and was second (607). Grinnell was third with a 617. The Belles had a two-day total of 626 for seventh. Sydney Kuo from Washington University in St. Louis was the tournament medalist with a 141 after a 69 on Saturday.
Joanna James led the Belles with a 78 on Saturday and finished the tournament tied for 19th with a 155. The freshman had 23 pars on the weekend and was two-over on the front nine on day two. Sydney Hruskoci carded a 79 on day two and was tied for 15th with a 153. She was two-over on the front nine, was two-under on par five holes, and had 24 pars.
Erin Bennett shot an 80 and was tied for 61st with a 166. Bennett led the field in par three scoring for the tournament with a two-under effort on the weekend and tallied five birdies. Katelyn Tokarz wrapped up the team score with an 81 and was tied for 34th with a 159. Tokarz was among the tournament leaders in par four scoring with a 4.40 average on the weekend. Katherine Hopkins was the fifth golfer in the Belles' lineup and shot an 85 on Saturday to tie for 54th (164).
The Belles return to conference competition on Saturday, September 25 when they travel to Kalamazoo's Milham Park Golf Course for an 18-hole jamboree starting at 1:00 p.m.
