Belles in Seventh at Kathy Niepagen Spring Fling

NORMAL, Ill. - The Saint Mary's golf team shot a 313 and sits in seventh place after day one of the Illinois Wesleyan Kathy Niepagen Spring Fling at Ironwood Golf Course.
 
No. 12 ranked and host Illinois Wesleyan leads the field after a 288 on day one. No. 18 ranked Carleton sits in second with a 298, and No. 11 St. Catherine shot a 303 for third after 18 holes. Illinois Wesleyan's Macy Ludwig posted the low round of Saturday with a blistering five-under par 67.
 
Julia Lizak led the Belles with a collegiate career low score of 73 and is tied for fourth. The sophomore started her round with four consecutive pars before posting a birdie on par four No. 14. She added a birdie on par five No. 17 over her first nine holes, and she then tacked on birdies on par five No. 3 and par four No. 9. The four birdies were tied for the second-most on day one, and Lizak ended the round with ten pars. Moreover, she was tied for the second-best par five scoring effort of the day (-2).
 
Amanda Melling carded a 77 and is tied for 18th. The sophomore had four birdies on the day - par four No. 14, par three No. 16, par four No. 6, and par four No. 9 - and added six pars. Her four birdies tied her for the second-most of the day. She was even on par three holes to tie her for the seventh-best par three scoring.
 
Colleen Hand shot an 80 and holds a share of 36th. Hand had a birdie on par four No. 18 and added nine pars in the round. Haley Angel posted an 83 on Saturday is tied for 56th. She had a birdie on par four No. 6 and tallied eight pars in her round. Breana Harrington was a stroke back of Angel with an 84 and is tied for 62nd. Harrington had a birdie on par five No. 3 and tacked on five pars on the day.
 
Day two of the tournament tees off at 9:00 a.m. CDT (10:00 a.m. EDT) at Ironwood Golf Course.
