NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. - The Saint Mary's lacrosse team along with three student-athletes were recognized by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) for their academic achievements in the 2021-22 academic year.

The team was one of 326 schools from the NCAA Division I, II, and III and NAIA levels to garner IWLCA Academic Honor Squad status for 2021-22. In order to qualify, a program must have posted at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average for the academic year. The Belles were joined by 150 other NCAA Division III programs as an Academic Honor Squad after registering a 3.32 team GPA for 2021-22. Saint Mary's has earned the team academic honor each possible season since first fielding a team in 2014.

Additionally, three members of the Saint Mary's lacrosse program earned a spot on the 2022 IWLCA Academic Honor Roll. Bridget Kane, Shannon McCloskey, and Kathleen Soller were part of a group of 1,099 student-athletes from 193 different member institutions to be named to the Academic Honor Roll. Student-athletes must be a junior, senior, or graduate student and have a cumulative academic grade point average of 3.50 or above for their collective collegiate careers to-date. It is the second consecutive individual honor for Kane, McCloskey, and Soller.

"Academic success is a pillar of our program and we are proud to have earned IWLCA Academic Honor Squad recognition every year in our program history," said head coach Amy Long. "I am honored to work with such an exceptional group of women who are committed to excellence both in the classroom and on the field. I am especially proud of Bridget, Shannon, and Kathleen for the way they embody the mission of Division III by balancing academics, lacrosse, and co-curricular commitments. They are exceptional leaders and we are honored to have them represent our program."
