NEW YORK, N.Y. - Recent Saint Mary's graduate and lacrosse player Kathleen Soller has been named as one of five finalists from Women's Division III lacrosse for the Yeardley Reynolds Love Unsung Hero Award for 2022.

The Yeardley Reynolds Love Unsung Hero Award is given annually by the One Love Foundation in honor of former University of Virginia lacrosse player Yeardley Love. The award recognizes the accomplishments of both men's and women's lacrosse players at all three NCAA levels - Division I, II, and III - who demonstrate dedication, integrity, humility, hard work, community service, leadership, kindness and sportsmanship - all qualities Yeardley exemplified throughout her life.

"It is difficult to put into words the impact Kathleen has on her team and the community, both in South Bend and in her home community of Indianapolis," said head coach Amy Long. "Kathleen inspires everyone around her on a daily basis through her servant leadership and selfless character. Kathleen is an unsung hero for so many people and is very humble about the good she is bringing to the world. She has a spirit of selflessness as she shows up to serve others despite how hectic her nursing classes or clinical schedule or lacrosse season can be. Kathleen has inspired me to be a better person, and I know she has had that impact on so many others as well."

Soller recently graduated with a degree in nursing with a minor in biology. In addition to being a four-year member of the lacrosse team, she was the vice president of the finance committee for Dance Marathon, a Notre Dame Make a Wish Club board member, a Camp Kesem and Timmy Global Health member, was part of the Student Nurses Association, and served her team as a Student-Athlete Advisory Committee member. She has accepted a position as a nurse at Cincinnati Children's Hospital on their tracheostomy and ventilation unit.

Soller is the first Saint Mary's lacrosse player in program history to be named as a finalist for the Yeardley Reynolds Love Unsung Hero Award. She is joined by Tate Hurley (Hollins University), Sophie Mayer (Marymount University), Olivia Blake (Meredith College), and Abigail Eberle (St. Lawrence University) on the list of finalists from Division III Women's Lacrosse.

The winners for the award will be announced later this month.
