PASADENA, Cali. - Saint Mary's College Soccer fell in the opening match of the 2024 season to Providence Christian College, 1-0 on Friday. The Belles fall to 0-1 to open the year while the Seabeggars improve to 1-2.
Both teams played a fairly even first half, however it was Providence Christian who broke the 0-0 seal at the 22:42 mark as Sutton Denny put a ball into the back of the net and the Seabeggars would hold the lead for the remainder of the match.
The Belles outshot the Seabeggars 14-6 and 8-4 in shots on goal. Senior Riley Lindsey made the start for Saint Mary's in goal and faced three shots while making two saves.
Sophomore Margaret Slove led the offense for the Belles with five shots and four shots-on-goal while seniors Grace Barresi and Mary Kaczynski each tallied three shots each while Barresi chalked up two shots-on-goal.
