ALBION, Mich. - The Saint Mary's tennis team clinched third place in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) regular season standing and a spot in the top-four MIAA Tournament with an 8-1 win over Albion on Wednesday.
Gulli and Chamberlin then went on to clinch the win with matching 6-0, 6-0 wins at four and three singles, respectively, as the pair did not drop a game all day.
Megan Davy prevailed 6-1, 6-0 at two singles while
Lily Brandt claimed a 6-1, 6-0 win at six singles for the Belles. Preister was on the winning end of a 6-0, 6-3 final at five singles.
Monica Davy suffered a 6-2, 6-2 setback at one singles.
In exhibition play,
Jenna Jaskolka and
Carolyn Podawiltz won an 8-1 four doubles match. Jaskolka was leading in her seven singles match 5-1 before the match was halted.
The Belles (14-9, 6-2 MIAA) will travel to Kalamazoo on Wednesday, May 1 for an MIAA Tournament Semifinal against the Hornets. It is the sixth consecutive year Saint Mary's has earned a spot in the top-four MIAA Tournament.
