AUSTIN, Texas - The Saint Mary's tennis team closed out their spring break trip with a 6-3 win over Concordia University Texas on Friday afternoon.
The Belles set the tone with strong doubles play against the Tornados.
Alyssa Gulli and
Elizabeth Preister were the first duo off the courts with an 8-2 victory at three doubles.
Monica Davy and
Megan Davy followed suit with a matching 8-2 decision at one doubles.
Lilly Chamberlin and
Meredith Heckert made it three doubles wins for the Belles as the pair out-lasted their opponents in an 8-6 final at two doubles.
Preister was stopped in a 6-0, 6-1 match at six singles, but Gulli got the Belles right back in business after not dropping a game in a 6-0, 6-0 win at four singles. Heckert then clinched the team win with a 7-5, 6-2 decision at three singles for the Belles.
Monica Davy made a big push in the second set to try to force a tiebreaker, but the senior fell in a 6-3, 7-6 (7-0) one singles competition.
Lilly Chamberlin prevailed in a close third-set tiebreaker for a 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (10-8) final in her five singles match.
Megan Davy had a back-and-forth battle and forced a tiebreaker at two singles before ending on the short side of a 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (10-7) match.
The Belles (7-4) are off from competition until a scrimmage against Hillsdale on Saturday, March 23.
