NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Saint Mary's tennis team fell 9-0 in a conference match against No. 30 ranked Hope on Wednesday evening.
Lilly Chamberlin and Lily Brandt suffered an 8-0 setback at three doubles in a match played inside the fieldhouse of Angela Athletic & Wellness Complex. Monica Davy and Megan Davy had a strong effort to erase an early 3-0 deficit as the pair drew even at 4-4 at one doubles before being edged out in an 8-6 final. Alyssa Gulli and Elizabeth Preister fought from start to finish and forced a tiebreaker at 7-7 at two doubles. The pair fell behind in the tiebreaker 5-3 but came back to even the score at 5-5. The next, crucial point did not go in their favor, and the duo were halted 7-5 in the tiebreaker.
Gulli and Monica Davy both fell by 6-2, 6-0 scores in their three singles and one singles matches, respectively. Megan Davy was stopped in a 6-2, 6-1 final at two singles. Chamberlin shouldered a 6-2, 6-2 setback at four singles. Preister played a tight first set but was unable to overtake her counterpart in a 6-4, 6-0 final at five singles. Brandt, meanwhile, came up just short in a 6-3, 6-3 final at six singles.
The Belles (11-8, 3-1 MIA) are back at home again on Saturday as they host Calvin at 1:00 p.m. The two senior members of the team - Monica Davy and Elizabeth Preister - will be recognized at approximately 12:35 p.m. for their Senior Day festivities.
