Belles Come Up Short Against Hornets

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Saint Mary's tennis team ended on the short side of a 6-3 final against regionally-ranked Kalamazoo in conference action on Tuesday evening.
 
Alyssa Gulli and Lilly Chamberlin took an early lead and finished strong in an 8-4 win at two doubles to give Saint Mary's an early lead. Elizabeth Preister and Nicole Becker battled back-and-forth in a close match at three doubles before ending on the wrong side of an 8-6 final. Monica Davy and Megan Davy shouldered an 8-4 setback at one doubles as the Hornets took a 2-1 lead into singles play.
 
Monica Davy was toe-to-toe in her first set before falling 6-4 and being stopped 6-0 in her second set at one singles. Lily Brandt had a tight 6-4, 6-3 loss at six singles. Lilly Chamberlin fell in a 6-2, 6-4 match at four singles as Kalamazoo clinched the match. Megan Davy came up shy in a 6-3, 6-3 final at two singles. Alyssa Gulli took a commanding 6-0 first set win and prevailed 6-4 in the second set for a victory at three singles. Elizabeth Preister, meanwhile, out-dueled her counterpart in a 7-5, 6-3 final at five singles.
 
The Belles (12-9, 4-2 MIAA) are off from competition until Monday, April 22 when they travel to Alma for a 4:00 p.m. conference match.
