Belles Split Matches with Green Knights, Cardinals

AURORA, Ill. - The Saint Mary's tennis team split non-conference results on Sunday by taking a 6-3 win over St. Norbert before falling to host North Central in a tight 5-4 final.
 
In the first match of the day, the Belles took two of the three doubles matches against the Green Knights. Lilly Chamberlin and Alyssa Gulli cruised to an 8-1 win at two doubles. Monica Davy and Megan Davy held off their opponents in an 8-5 final at one doubles. Nicole Becker and Lily Brandt went to a tiebreaker at three doubles but came up just short in a 9-7 (7-5) final.
 
Megan Davy took a strong 6-1, 6-1 win at two singles, and Monica Davy hardly missed a beat in a 6-1, 6-2 one singles victory. Alyssa Gulli clinched the win with a 6-3, 6-2 decision at three singles for the Belles. With the match decided, four, five, and six singles all played eight-game pro sets. Nicole Becker suffered an 8-3 setback at five singles, and Lilly Chamberlin lost by that same 8-3 margin at four singles. Jenna Jaskolka was victorious in an 8-2 final at six singles.
 
Against the host Cardinals, Brandt and Becker battled their way to an 8-6 win at three doubles. Gulli and Chamberlin fell in an 8-3 match at two doubles, and Monica Davy and Megan Davy were narrowly edged out in a tiebreaker at one doubles in an 8-7 (7-3) final.
 
Megan Davy was stopped in a 6-0, 6-0 final at two singles, and Monica Davy fell in a 6-1, 6-0 one singles competition. Chamberlin emerged on top in a 6-2, 6-4 final at four singles. Gulli fought in a close match at three singles but was stopped in a tight 6-4, 7-5 match. Becker used the momentum from a 6-4 win in the first set to take the second set 6-2 in her six singles contest. Brandt took the first set 6-2 in five singles. In the second set, the junior was stopped in a tight 7-6 (7-3) final to force a tiebreaker. In a nailbiter of a tiebreaker, Brandt prevailed in a thrilling 10-8 final.
 
The Belles return to conference competition on Wednesday, April 10 when they host Hope at 4:00 p.m.
