NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Saint Mary's tennis team fell in an 8-1 final against regionally-ranked Wheaton on Friday evening.
Nicole Becker was on the wrong end of a 6-3, 6-0 match at six doubles, and Thunder clinched the team decision as Preister was stopped 6-2, 6-1 at five singles.
Monica Davy had several lengthy points in a 6-2, 6-1 setback at one singles.
Megan Davy was shot for shot with her opponent in a 6-0, 6-0 match at two singles that was much closer than the score indicated. Gulli came from behind in her opening set to force a tiebreaker and prevailed before carrying the momentum into the second set for a solid 7-6 (7-2), 6-1 win at three singles. Chamberlin also played point-for-point with her counterpart from Wheaton but was narrowly edged out in a 6-4, 6-4 final at four singles.
Becker and
Jenna Jaskolka won a 6-1 exhibition doubles match. Jaskolka then claimed an 8-4 exhibition singles match to close out the match.
Carolyn Podawiltz fell in an 8-0 exhibition singles match.
The Belles (7-6) have their second match in three days' time when they host Trine on Saturday at Notre Dame's Eck Tennis Pavilion beginning at approximately 12:30 p.m.
