Belles Open Play at ITA Central Regional Tournament

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Saint Mary's tennis team began competition at the 2022 ITA Central Regional Tournament on Friday.
 
Leah Hosang and Evelyn Demblans-Dechans battled tough but came up just short in an 8-6 doubles final against Jamie Hurst and Jenna Bell from Ohio Northern. The pair are set to face Julianna Johnson and Ellie Himebauch from Adrian in the consolation side of the draw on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. CDT.

Alayna Campbell and Emma Kealy edged out Caroline Chandler and Felicity Kolb from John Carroll in an 8-6 doubles match to advance to the round of 32. In their match against sixth-seeded Eleni Dakos and Eleni Lazaridou from Kenyon, the pair shouldered an 8-4 setback. Campbell and Kealy are slated to face Katherine Johnston and Hallie Jeffers from Washington University in St. Louis at 9:45 a.m. CDT Saturday in the consolation bracket.

Kathleen McLeod, Leah Hosang, Emma Kealy, Alayna Campbell, and Lucy Chamberlin are all competing in various singles flights at the event. McLeod was on the short end of a 6-1, 6-2 final in the Blue Draw against Anke Patel from Washington University in St. Louis. She then was scheduled to face off against Rebecca Elias in the consolation side of the bracket earlier this evening. The result from that match is unavailable.

Hosang opened her competition in the Red Draw against Allaire Berl from Kenyon and fell 6-1, 6-1. In the consolation bracket, she was scheduled to take on Alexandra Preston from DePauw earlier this evening as the result from that match has not been made available.

Emma Kealy fell in a 6-3, 6-1 final in the Green Draw singles bracket against Hannah Quick from Denison. In the consolation side of the bracket, Kealy was paired up against Grace Gardner from Transylvania earlier today with the result being unavailable at the time of posting.

In the ITA Draw, Alayna Campbell opened the day by battling her way to a 7-5, 6-2 win over Olivia Eckels from Otterbein to advance to the round of 32. Matched up against ninth-seeded Kaeli Smashey from North Central, Campbell was stopped short in a 6-2, 6-2 final to conclude her singles tournament run.

Lucy Chamberlin also competed in the ITA Draw and had a tight 6-1, 7-6 (7-2) setback against Sonal Matta from DePauw in her opening round match. Chamberlin came up on the wrong side of a 6-3, 6-0 final against Carolyn Tsung from Washington University in St. Louis in the consolation bracket to end her singles competition.
 
Saturday's matches are scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. CDT.
