Members of the tennis team huddle prior to a match.
ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Members of the Saint Mary's tennis team had their appearances at the 2022 ITA Central Regional Tournament all come to a close on Saturday.

Evelyn Demblans-Dechans and Leah Hosang outlasted Julianna Johnson and Ellie Himebauch from Adrian in the consolation side of the draw to start the morning in an 8-7 (7-3) nailbiter. The pair, however, had their tournament run stopped in an 8-3 loss to Katherine Taylor and Grace Gardner from Transyvlania.

Alayna Campbell and Emma Kealy competed in a consolation doubles match of their own on Saturday morning but came up short in an 8-2 final against Katherine Johnson and Hallie Jeffers from Washington University in St. Louis.

Kathleen McLeod earned an 8-4 win against Rebecca Elias on Friday evening to move to the consolation semifinals in the Blue Draw. On Saturday, the senior came up just shy of making an appearance in the final of the bracket as she had an 8-5 loss to Christina Duvall from Transylvania in the semifinal round.

Leah Hosang powered her way to an 8-1 victory against Alexandra Preston from DePauw in the Red Draw consolation bracket on Friday night. Hosang's run in the tournament, however, was ended in an 8-0 setback against Asha Shukla from Case Western Reserve in the consolation semifinal round.

Also on Friday, Emma Kealy edged out Grace Gardner from Transylvania in an 8-6 final to move ahead to the consolation semifinals in the Green Draw. The freshman then earned an 8-5 win over Ivy Walker from Kalamazoo to advance to the consolation final. Kealy came up just short in the final, however, as she fell in a tight 8-5 match against Ali Shanzay from Ohio Wesleyan.

The next official match for the Belles Tennis team will be in February as Saint Mary's is scheduled to travel to Spring Arbor for a contest on February 18.
