Belles Earn Pair of Wins to Close Out Florida Trip

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Saint Mary's tennis team capped off their slate of competition in Florida with a 9-0 win over Marywood and a 7-2 victory against St. Scholastica on Wednesday.

In the first match of the day, the Belles got on a roll early and never looked back. Lucy Chamberlin and Leah Hosang took a commanding 8-0 win at two doubles. Kathleen McLeod and Kalyn Borger prevailed 8-2 at three doubles, and Alayna Campbell and Emma Kealy captured an 8-1 win at one doubles.

Evelyn Demblans-Dechans did not drop a game in a 6-0, 6-0 win at five singles. Emma Kealy clinched the team win with an unblemished 6-0, 6-0 final at three singles. Annika Smith claimed a 6-0, 6-1 win at six singles for the Belles. Kathleen McLeod prevailed 6-2, 6-1 at four singles. Lucy Chamberlin won a 6-0, 6-3 match at one singles, and Alayna Campbell outlasted her opponent in a 6-1, 6-4 decision at two singles for the 9-0 team win on the USTA National Campus clay courts.

In the second match of the day, Lucy Chamberlin and Leah Hosang edged their opponents for an 8-6 win at two doubles. Alayna Campbell and Emma Kealy followed suit with an 8-6 win at one doubles. Kalyn Borger and Evelyn Demblans-Dechans could not quite put together a comeback in an 8-5 setback at three doubles.

Demblans-Dechans responded right away with a 6-1, 6-0 win at six singles. Much like the first match of the day, Emma Kealy was off the courts moments later with a matching 6-1, 6-0 victory at three singles. Alayna Campbell then clinched the win with a 6-2, 6-2 decision at two singles. Lucy Chamberlin came up on the short end of a 6-4, 6-1 final at one singles. Leah Hosang won a big tiebreaker in her opening set and then cruised in the second set in a 7-6, 6-1 final at four singles. Kathleen McLeod put together a huge comeback at five singles. After falling 6-4 in her opening set, the senior ran right through the second set 6-0 to force a super tiebreaker. McLeod then came out on top in a thrilling 11-9 finish to take the win.

In exhibition doubles play, Hannah Gerner and McLeod came out on top by an 8-1 margin.

The Belles (8-0) are set to travel to Alma on Sunday for a 1:00 p.m. conference match against the Scots.
