Belles Fall to Knights

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Saint Mary's tennis team came up on the short end of a 6-3 conference match at Calvin on Saturday afternoon.
 
Grace Clearwater and Katie Hunter had an 8-3 setback at three doubles. Emma Kealy and Anna Gardner shouldered a tight 8-6 loss at two doubles. Alayna Campbell and Evelyn Demblans-Dechans competed in a nailbiter at one doubles as the pair prevailed in a tiebreaker with an 8-7 (11-9) score to get the Belles in the scoring column.
 
Emma Kealy was leading 5-3 in the first set before taking the win due to the retirement of her opponent at two singles. Hannah Gerner was on the wrong side of a 6-0, 6-0 final at six singles. Grace Clearwater came up shy in a 6-1, 6-0 match at five singles. Anna Gardner was on the short end of a 6-0, 6-1 final at four singles. Evelyn Demblans-Dechans fell in a tight 6-3, 6-3 three singles match. Alayna Campbell was steady on her way to earning a 6-4, 7-5 victory at one singles.
 
The Belles (12-5, 2-1 MIAA) are on the road Wednesday when they travel to Hope for a 4:00 p.m. conference match.
