2023-24 Spring Tennis Preview

The tennis team huddles together during a break at a match outside.

The spring portion of the 2023-24 Saint Mary's tennis season kicks off on Saturday, February 10.

The Belles have a full slate of competition beginning this week. The team has six official matches in February and six more contests in March before the start of MIAA play at the end of that month. The Belles square off against a mix of both NAIA and NCAA Division III opponents, travel to Hilton Head, South Carolina for spring break, and close out the regular season with a slate of eight conference matches. MIAA competition begins on March 23 at Adrian as Saint Mary's eyes a spot in the top-four MIAA Tournament at the start of May.

The 2023-24 squad features an even split of returners and first-year student-athletes. Katie Hunter, Alayna Campbell, Evelyn Demblans-Dechans, Hannah Gerner, and Emma Kealy all return for the Belles. Campbell is a two-time All-MIAA Second Team honoree, and she and teammate Demblans-Dechans have both garnered MIAA Athlete of the Week Honors. Kealy joined Campbell and Demblans-Dechans by posting more than 30 combined singles and doubles wins in the 2022-23 season to help pace the Belles. Hunter and Gerner, meanwhile, continue to make contributions to the team's continued success in the spring season.

Grace Clearwater, Olivia Erickson, Anna Gardner, and Michaela Hauer joined the squad in the fall while classmate Genevieve Brawner joined the team in the spring. Clearwater and Gardner were both in the Belles' lineup in the fall for a pair of matches while Erickson made a deep run in the Hope Fall Invitational tournament.
