Belles Fall to Central, Take Down Benedictine at North Park

CHICAGO, Ill. - The Saint Mary's volleyball team fell to Central (Iowa) in a 3-1 (17-25, 25-13, 25-23, 26-24) final before ending the weekend on a high note with a 3-0 (25-13, 25-19, 25-21) win over Benedictine on day two of the North Park Invitational.

Against Central, Nicole Lukens posted her tenth double-double of the season with a team-high 11 kills and 13 digs. Lindsey Pelletier put down 10 kills, and Laura Keating added nine kills. Morgan VanderWey notched a double-double of her own with 34 assists and 14 digs. Audrey Shannon led all players in the match with 26 digs.

The Belles then posted their fourth .300+ team hitting percentage effort of the season in the sweep of Benedictine. Lukens registered her sixth-consecutive double-double with 13 kills and 11 digs while putting down a pair of blocks. Lindsey Pelletier had her third-straight double-digit kill effort with 10 kills. Laura Keating added nine kills in the win, and Morgan VanderWey had 31 assists. Claire Hennessy paced the team with 14 digs and three aces, and Audrey Shannon chipped in 11 digs.

Lindsey Pelletier was selected to the all-tournament team for her efforts on the weekend. The sophomore middle hitter hit an impressive .385 on the weekend with 44 kills while also adding a team-high nine blocks. It is the first all-tournament team honor of her career.

The Belles (7-8) resume MIAA competition on Wednesday, September 26 when they travel to Adrian for a 7:00 p.m. match.
