Belles Take Sixth Place at Calvin Knight Invitational

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Saint Mary's cross country team had a sixth-place team finish at the Calvin Knight Invitational on Saturday morning.
 
NCAA Division II member and No. 16 ranked Hillsdale captured the team title with a team score of 32. Host and No. 21 ranked Calvin placed second with a 43, and regionally-ranked DePauw and NCAA Division II member and No. 2 ranked Grand Valley tied for third with matching 107 scores. Hillsdale's Liz Wamsley took the individual title with a time of 21:28 to win the race by nearly 40 seconds.
 
Amanda Tracy paced the Belles on Saturday with a time of 24:39 for 31st place overall and 30 points toward the team total. The junior was narrowly edged out of 30th place by a second by a runner from Grand Valley State University as she ran a time within five seconds of her personal record time from last fall.
 
Susanna Bernovich, Isabelle Auch, and Angela Bannan all posted times within six seconds of one another. Bernovich had her highest finish for the team to-date as the sophomore was the second Saint Mary's runner to cross the line with a time of 25:50 and place 48th (40 points). Isabelle Auch was shoulder to shoulder with her teammate as Auch placed 49th (41 points) with a 25:51 in her first 6k college race. Bannan turned in a 25:56 for 51st place and 42 points to help the team efforts on Saturday. Anna DeMars wrapped up the team scoring with 58th place and 48 points after running a 26:16 on Saturday.

Alexa Zeese placed 61st with atime of 26:32, which was more than a 50-second improvement from her time at the same race last year. Brigid Hull finished 64th and ran a 26:39 race for a new 6k personal record time with a 16-second improvement from her previous-best 6k performance.

Carly Davis posted a time of 27:16 in her first collegiate 6k race for 69th place. Classmate Mary Weber was not far behind as she finished in a pack of runners with a time of 27:25 and placed 74th.

Julia Bobosky placed 78th with a 27:46 race time. Julia Crowley finished two places later with a 27:52 for 80th. Mikayla Trumbla turned in a 28:18 in her first race in over a year as the senior placed 84th.
 
Next up for the Belles is the University of Notre Dame National Catholic Invitational on Friday, September 16 at the Burke Golf Course starting at 3:30 p.m.
