Monster Personal Record Performances See Belles Take Sixth

Members of the Saint Mary's cross country team start together at a race.
SHEPHERD, Mich. - There was nothing spooky about the times posted by the Saint Mary's cross country team at the MIAA Championships other than how scary fast the Belles performed on Saturday.

No. 24 ranked Hope claimed the team title with a score of 39. No. 20 ranked Calvin was second with a team total of 50, and No. 35 ranked Trine was right behind the Knights with a score of 52. Hope's Anastasia Tucker captured the individual title with a 20:52.2.

Haley Greene and Amanda Tracy set the tone at the front of the pack for the Belles in a day filled with personal records and season-best times for Saint Mary's runners. A strong finish by Greene carried the junior to the best 6k time of her collegiate career with a 23:36.0 to place her 36th overall (27 points). Moments later, Tracy held off a runner from Trine for 38th (28 points) as she set a personal record time by nearly 40 seconds with a 23:40.2 for her first sub-24 6k of her career.

Angela Bannan, Anna DeMars, and Alexa Zeese all set new PRs in their final MIAA Championship race as the trio of seniors wrapped up the team score. Bannan posted a 24:13.5 to improve her previous personal record time by 12 seconds while taking 52nd (35 points). DeMars had her first sub-25 6k time with a 24:45.5 to improve her PR time by more than 45 seconds as she took 65th overall (40 points). Zeese also dropped below the 25-minute mark for the first time in her collegiate career with a 24:49.3 to place 67th (42 points).

Susanna Bernovich cut 36 seconds off of her PR from two weeks ago with a 25:02.5 to finish 69th overall with a new personal record. Isabelle Auch established a new PR by 20 seconds with a 25:07.6 as she was narrowly edged out of 70th to finish 71st. Carly Davis also had a tight finish at the line to claim 73rd with a personal record of 25:15.8 - a 42-second improvement from her time from two weeks ago.

Brigid Hull was 78th overall as she finished in a personal record time of 25:40.0. Mary Weber beat out runners from Alma and Calvin by half of a second for 81st while posting a PR of 25:46.9. Mikayla Trumbla added a PR of her own with a 26:02.1 to finish 91st.

Julia Bobosky crossed the finish line less than a second ahead of a runner from Albion to take 102nd with a season-best 6k time of 26:27.9. Julia Crowley established a new 6k personal record time of 27:06.0 while placing 110th. In her lone 6k of the season, Abby Seaton completed the race in 30:26.8 for 126th.

Every runner for Saint Mary's had either a personal record time or a season-best time at the event.

While the season came to a close for many of the Belles on Saturday, the team will be well represented in two weeks at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Race, which is hosted by Hope on November 12.
