FREELAND, Mich. - The Saint Mary's College Department of Athletics saw seven of its varsity programs earn the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Team GPA Award for the 2019-20 academic year.

According to the league, the MIAA Team GPA Award is presented to conference athletic teams that achieve a 3.300 or better GPA for an academic year. Grade-point averages are calculated at the end of the academic year.

It is the fifth consecutive year that the Belles have seen at least seven of the eight varsity programs garner the MIAA Team GPA Award. Leading the way for Saint Mary's was the volleyball team with a 3.6233 grade point average. Tennis (3.5695), basketball (3.5673), soccer (3.4824), softball (3.4612), golf (3.4514), and cross country (3.3865) joined the volleyball team as honored programs for the academic year.

Since joining the MIAA in the 1998-99 academic year, the cross country and volleyball programs have garnered more MIAA Team GPA Awards (18) than any other program in the department.
