FAIRFAX, Va. - Saint Mary's student-athletes Haley Angel and Grace Reyda were recognized by Diverse: Issues in Higher Education as 2024 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars for their dedication to both academics and athletics.
In order to be considered for the recognition, minority student-athletes must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher on a 4.0 scale through the fall term, be at least a sophomore, have been an active member of an intercollegiate athletic team during the 2023-24 academic year, and have a demonstrated record of service to the campus or community.
A senior on the Belles golf team in 2023-24, Angel was one of 16 women's golfers honored with the recognition. She has earned Women's Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar and MIAA Honor Roll distinctions during her time with the Belles. A sophomore on the soccer team, Reyda was one of 16 student-athletes named to the Second Team for women's soccer honorees. She was also one of 48 total women's soccer players to be listed for their achievements in 2023-24. Reyda earned MIAA Honor Roll recognition last year as a freshman.
