NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Saint Mary's College Softball junior Sam Mikitka (Naperville, IL) and Tennis junior Emma Kealy (Hudson, OH) were named Belles Athletes of the Week after their performances last week.
Mikitka would lead the Belles in the circle last week, throwing 13.1 total innings in her two starts including an incredible nine inning complete game win against Albion College. She would allow just one run in those nine innings on her way to her third victory of the season. She would shut the Britons throughout the game, allowing nine hits, and stranding runners on base in five innings including two in the top of the ninth. Mikitka would also come up clutch at the plate for the Belles in the same game, hitting a game winning single back up the middle to close the season with a win.
Kealy would be a driving force for the Belles, leading them to another MIAA Tournament Semi Finals appearance. Kealy would go an impressive 3-0 on the week, including 2-0 at number one doubles and defeating Trine University at number two singles. Not only would she help lead the Belles to their win over Trine, but her singles victory would also come as career win number 100 for Kealy. As she finished her junior season, she currently sits at 101 career victories. Kealy finished the year with a 31-14 overall record, the third most wins on the team, going 11-9 in singles play and 20-5 in doubles play.
