Belles Hire Walter as Next Softball Coach

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Saint Mary's Softball and the Department of Athletics announced that Jordyn Walter has been named the next Head Softball Coach effective as of August 1, 2024.

Walter arrives at Saint Mary's from Lake Michigan College where she has served as assistant softball coach since 2022. While at LMC, her primary focus was infielders, hitters and base runners. Walter's responsibilities also included assisting in recruiting, practice planning and camp organization. The 2024 Lake Michigan softball team was Regional Champions and made an appearance in the NJCAA DII national Softball Tournament for the first time since 2000.

A graduate of Western Michigan University, Walter was a three-year member of the softball team. She started in a total of 116 games for the Broncos and was the recipient of the Softball WMU "Team Captain" Award in 2022. While a member of the Western Michigan team, she participated in the USA Athletes International Aruba Tour in 2022.

Prior to attending Western Michigan, Walter was a two-year starter in the middle infield for Lake Michigan College. She served as a team captain from 2017-2019.

Walter completed her bachelor's degree in university studies with a concentration in education, biology and history in May 2022.

"I want to thank Director of Athletics Julie Schroeder-Biek for the opportunity to represent Saint Mary's College and my mentors who have aided my journey in becoming head coach for Belles Softball," said Walter. "As a former student-athlete who found purpose and passion for coaching since I was young, it has been my vision to spread the love of the game and play a significant role in the lives of young women who strive for greatness. From the moment I stepped on campus, I knew I would be blessed to call Saint Mary's College home and being chosen to represent Belles Softball is an opportunity of a lifetime. I am extremely proud to represent such an amazing institution, program, and players who will aid in building the foundation of a winning program at Saint Mary's and represent what it means to be a Belle."

Walter takes over a program that finished the 2024 season with a 10-22 (5-11 MIAA) record and missed the conference tournament.
