BATTLE CREEK, Mich. - The Saint Mary's golf team posted their best MIAA 18-hole score of the season to-date with a 322 to take the top team spot at day one of the two-day MIAA Fall Final.
The Belles finished three strokes ahead of league-leading Hope and six strokes ahead of third-place Adrian. Kalamazoo rounded out the top four teams after day one with a 334. Adrian's Taylor Ross, meanwhile, led the field with a 76.
Sydney Hruskoci was a shot behind Ross as the senior was second overall with a 77. Hruskoci shared round-high honors with three birdies, had nine pars, and was tied for the best round scoring average on both par four and par fives. Joanna James tied for third with a 78. The freshman led the team with 10 pars in the round, had a birdie, and was one-over on par five holes.
Katelyn Tokarz carded an 83 for 16th overall on the day. Tokarz tallied eight pars and was one-over par on par three holes in the round. Ashley Brewster capped off the team score with an 84 to tie for 17th. The sophomore collected eight pars and a birdie while going two-over on par five holes. Katherine Hopkins was the fifth golfer in the Belles' lineup and shot an 85 to tie for 20th. Hopkins was tied for the fifth-best par four scoring average on Friday.
Haley Angel is competing as an individual at the 36-hole event and shot a 92 on Friday to tie for 42nd.
Day two of the MIAA Fall Final is set to begin at 10:00 a.m. at Bedford Valley Golf Club.
