ALBION, Mich. - The Saint Mary's golf team shot a 343 to tie for sixth place at the opening MIAA jamboree of the season on Tuesday, which was hosted by Albion at Duck Lake Country Club.
Hope took top honors with a 320 while Calvin placed second with a 326. Olivet and Adrian tied for third place at the event with matching scores of 334. The Belles tied with host Albion as the two squads were both seven strokes back of Trine's 336. Calvin's Chandler Sjoerdsma was the medalist with an even-par 72.
Sydney Hruskoci led the Belles with an 83 on the day to tie for 14th place overall. Erin Bennett carded an 86 and took a share of 27th place at the event. Katherine Hopkins and Katelyn Tokarz each shot an 87 (t-30th) to wrap up the team score. Ashley Brewster posted a 92 as the fifth golfer in the lineup for the Belles as she tied for 44th overall.
Joanna James and Haley Angel both competed as individuals. James shot an 84 to tie for 17th on the day while Angel turned in a 90 to tie for 40th.
The Belles take a break from conference competition this weekend when they travel to the Illinois Wesleyan Fall Classic. The two-day event begins on Friday, September 17 at Ironwood Golf Course with a shotgun start at 12:00 p.m. CDT.
