Belles Take Third at Franklin Invitational

FRANKLIN, Ind. - The Saint Mary's golf team concluded their season with a third place finish at the Franklin Spring Invitational.
 
No. 15 ranked Illinois Wesleyan won the team title after a 308 on Sunday gave the Titans a two-day total of 613. Augustana placed second (318-318--636). The Belles cut 17 strokes off of Saturday's score and shot a 319 on Sunday to conclude the tournament with a 655 while moving up from fourth place to third.
 
Lexi Onsrud from Illinois Wesleyan claimed the individual tournament medalist honor with a 72 on Sunday for a 149. 
 
Julia Lizak moved up 11 spots on the leaderboard after turning a 76 (39-37) for her best round of the spring season to finish tied for seventh (160). The freshman had birdies on par three No. 6, par five No. 11, and par five No. 15 on Sunday and had just one hole above a bogey in the round. Her one-over effort on the back nine led all Saint Mary's players. Lizak finished even on par five holes for the tournament.
 
Katherine Hopkins shot a 79 on Sunday and moved up eight spots to finish 18th overall (165). The senior did not post a score above a bogey, opened her final collegiate round with a birdie on par five No. 1, and had nine pars while going 39-40. Hopkins ended the tournament two-over on par three holes to tie for the third-best scoring average on short-yardage holes.
 
Erin Bennett went 39-41 for an 80 to finish tied for 11th (162). The senior had ten pars and a birdie on par five No. 15. She was two-over on par five holes for the entire tournament, and her team-high 18 total pars was tied for seventh overall.
 
Katelyn Tokarz turned in an 84 to wrap up the team score while finishing tied for 24th overall (169). Tokarz opened the round with a birdie on par five No. 1 and added seven pars to her tournament total. The sophomore was one-over on par five holes over the 36-hole event.
 
Isa Patacsil shot an 85 to tie for 26th (170). The senior circled a birdie on par five No. 11 and collected seven pars in the round. 
 
Haley Angel, Joanna James, and Nani Patacsil all competed as individuals at the tournament.
 
Haley Angel climbed five placed in the individual standings and tied for 21st (167) after shooting an 81. Angel had seven pars and circled birdies on par three No. 6 and par five No. 11. Her three-over scoring effort on par three holes was tied for the sixth-best scoring average. Joanna James carded an 86 on Sunday and tied for 30th (171). The sophomore tallied eight pars in the round. Nani Patacsil shot an 88 and finished in a tie for 45th (183). The senior opened the round with consecutive pars and had seven total pars over the round.
