Belles Capture Dan Quayle Match Play Invitational

 SELLERSBERG, Ind. - The Saint Mary's golf team opened the Spring 2023 season by winning the DePauw University Dan Quayle Match Play Invitational.
 
The Belles entered the match play format seeded third after shooting a 327 to open play on Monday morning. Saint Mary's shot a 327, just one stroke behind host DePauw's 326 and eight strokes back of top-seeded Ohio Northern's 319.
 
Erin Bennett led the Belles in stroke play with a 78, which was tied for the fourth-best score of the round. Katherine Hopkins posted an 81 (t-8th) while Breana Harrington, Julia Lizak, and Isa Patacsil all turned in rounds of 84 (t-12th). Katelyn Tokarz rounded out the Saint Mary's stroke play scores with an 85 (t-16th).
 
Saint Mary's faced off against DePauw's Black squad as the Belles defeated the Tigers 4-2 to earn a spot in the Championship Match. Wittenberg defeated Ohio Northern on the other side of the bracket on a tiebreaker. The Belles then prevailed against Wittenberg by a 4.5-1.5 scoring margin to capture the title.
 
The Belles are back to competition on Saturday and Sunday when they travel to the WashU Spring Invite at Crescent Farms Golf Club in Eureka, Missouri.
