Belles in Ninth at Illinois Wesleyan Fall Classic

NORMAL, Ill. - The Saint Mary's golf team shot a 327 and is in ninth place after day one of the Illinois Wesleyan University Fall Classic at Ironwood Golf Course.
 
Wisconsin-Whitewater holds the team lead after shooting a 305. Central is in second place with a 308, and host and No. 14 ranked Illinois Wesleyan is in third with a 309. Ellie Johnson from Wisconsin-Whitewater led the field with an even-par 72 on Saturday. 
 
Erin Bennett and Katelyn Tokarz each shot rounds of 78 and are tied for 11th to lead the Belles. Bennett did not post a score higher than a bogey and had birdies on par four No. 1 and par four No. 12 before ending her round with three consecutive pars. The senior was also among the top five players on the day in par four scoring (+2). Tokarz had eleven pars to lead the team and tie for sixth among all players in the round, and the sophomore circled a birdie on par four No. 18. She was even on par three holes in the round to tie for fourth among all players. 
 
Julia Lizak shot an 83 (t-40th) after a string of three consecutive birdies helped the freshman to share round-high honors with four birdies on the day. Lizak circled scores on par five No. 7, par four No. 12, par three No. 13, and par four No. 14 and was one-over on par five holes. Katherine Hopkins shot an 88 (t-70th) to round out the team score. 
 
Breana Harrington was the fifth golfer in the lineup for the Belles and shot a 94 (t-85th). Harrington had a birdie on par four No. 12 and added four pars. Amanda Melling is competing as an individual at the event and shot an 86 (t-55th) on day one. Melling had nine pars and was one-over on par three holes on Saturday.
 
Round two of the 36-hole event begins on Sunday at 9:00 a.m. CDT.
