Belles Win MIAA Jamboree Hosted by Olivet

MARSHALL, Mich. - The Saint Mary's golf team claimed first place at the MIAA Jamboree hosted by Olivet at the Medalist Golf Club on Thursday afternoon.
 
The Belles shot a 328 to finish ahead of second place Adrian (330), third place Hope (332), and the rest of the field. Chandler Sjoerdsma from Calvin and Riley Kleck from Adrian tied for individual top honors with matching scores of 77. Adrian, meanwhile, leads the overall stroke total through 72 holes of play with a cumulative score of 1,274. Saint Mary's is second with 1,286 while Hope is third with 1,320.
 
Julia Lizak was a stroke off from sharing medalist honors (t-3rd) while turning in the best 18-hole conference round of her young career with a 78. Lizak circled a birdie on par four No. 11 and led the team with 10 pars in the round. She was tied for the second-best par three scoring (+1), was two-over on par five holes, and was tied for fourth in par four scoring (+3). Lizak did not post a score above a bogey in the round.
 
Erin Bennett shot an 80 and tied for sixth place overall. The senior co-captain had birdies on par four No. 5 and par three No. 12. She tallied seven pars and was tied for second in par four scoring (+2) in the round. Katelyn Tokarz carded an 83 and finished eleventh. The sophomore also had a pair of birdies - one on par four No. 5 and another on par five No. 13 - to go along with five pars. Tokarz was three-over on par five holes to finish in the top eight in the field.
 
Amanda Melling wrapped up the team score with an 87 and a share of 19th place. The freshman was tied for eighth in par three scoring (+2) and had six pars. Ashley Brewster was the fifth golfer in the Belles' lineup and shot an 89 to tie for 26th. Brewster tied for 18th in par five scoring (+4) to go with four pars on the day. 
 
Georgie Kersman competed as an individual and shot an 85 to tie for 12th. Kersman had seven pars and tied for tenth in par four scoring (+5).
 
The Belles now prepare for the 36-hole, two-day MIAA End of Season Weekend Jamboree next Friday and Saturday at Bedford Valley Golf Club in Battle Creek, Michigan.
