Belles Finish Second in Spring MIAA Standings

TECUMSEH, Mich. - The Saint Mary's golf team finished second in the final MIAA spring standings after shooting a 323 on Saturday at the Tecumseh Golf Club. 
 
Host and regular season champion Adrian took the MIAA automatic qualifier to the NCAA Championships after a 318 on Saturday gave the Bulldogs a 54-hole score of 938. The Belles ended the 54-hole qualifying series with a score of 949. Hope was third with a 965 after shooting a 318 on Saturday, and Alma was fourth with a 1,036 over the three rounds.
 
Erin Bennett and Julia Lizak led the Belles with matching scores of 79. Bennett tied for the best two-day total for the weekend with a 154. The senior had the team's best back-nine score of the day (+1) after posting six consecutive pars before sinking a birdie on par five No. 16 after making the turn. Bennett completed the round with 12 pars, led the field in par four scoring, and was second for the weekend with 21 total pars.
 
Lizak had a 162 over Friday and Saturday's rounds and was tied for eighth. The freshman went 39-40 with a birdie par three No. 13 and ten pars. Lizak ended the weekend with 17 pars and led the field by going even on par three holes.
 
Katelyn Tokarz shot an 81 on Saturday to finish the weekend with a 157 (t-4th). Tokarz had birdies on par four No. 2, par four No 9, and par four No.18 to finish the 36-hole weekend with a field-best seven birdies. She was one-over on par five holes over the weekend, and tallied 12 total pars.
 
Isa Patacsil turned in an 84 and finished the two rounds at Tecumseh Golf Club with a 164 (t-10th). Patacsil collected ten pars on the day to finish with 18 pars over Friday and Saturday's rounds. She was tied for the sixth-best scoring effort on par four holes.
 
Katherine Hopkins shot an 85 for a 170 over the final 36 holes of play to tie for 15th. The senior circled birdies on par four No. 1, par five No. 3, and par four No. 9 to go along with three pars. Her five total birdies on the weekend was tied for the second-most among all players.
 
The Belles will conclude their season next weekend at the Franklin Invitational. The two-day event runs Saturday and Sunday at The Legends Golf Club in Franklin, Indiana.
