Belles Take Sixth at Kyle Campbell Memorial Invitational

MARSHALL, Mich. - The Saint Mary's golf team shot a 333 on Saturday and moved up a spot to finish sixth out of 16 teams at the Olivet College Kyle Campbell Memorial Invitational.

Bethel took home the team title after a 306 on day two gave the Pilots a 624 combined score for 36 holes. Ohio Northern shot a 327 on Saturday and placed second with a 654, and fellow MIAA member Adrian placed third with a 622 (337-325). Bethel's Jessica Shurety and Maria Pardo Victori tied for individual medalist honors for the tournament with matching 152s.

Erin Bennett climbed five spots on the leaderboard by tying her career-low score with a 77 on Saturday as she tied for sixth place with a 159 for the weekend. The senior co-captain was among the top 20 players in par three scoring and par four scoring while finishing second in par five scoring. Her 19 a pars led the team over the two-day event, and she had three birdies to tie for eighth among all players at the tournament.

Katelyn Tokarz also moved up the leaderboard and finished tied for 24th after posting an 82 on Saturday to improve her day-one score by seven strokes. Tokarz was among the round leaders in par four scoring and led the team with four birdies during the weekend. Katherine Hopkins also took seven strokes off of her Friday score and shot an 85 to tie for 33rd.

Amanda Melling wrapped up the team score with an 89 and finished in 31st place over the weekend. The freshman was in the top 20 in par three scoring and had 15 pars at the tournament. Breana Harrington was the fifth golfer in the lineup for the Belles and shot a 96 while finishing with a share of 44th. She was in the top 20 in the field in par five scoring over the 36-hole event.

Julia Lizak competed as an individual at the tournament and climbed the leaderboard to tie for 14th after shooting an 81 on Saturday (165) for the highest individual finish of any player in the event. Lizak was second among all players in par three scoring (+1) and concluded the 36 holes with 17 pars.

The Belles open up conference competition on Wednesday, September 14 as Saint Mary's serves as the host for the first MIAA Jamboree of the season. The 18-hole round begins at 1:00 p.m. at Knollwood Country Club.
