Belles in Top Half of Field at WashU Spring Invitational

EUREKA, Mo. - The Saint Mary's golf team put up a 328 and sits in the top half of a field which features six nationally-ranked programs at the Washington University in St. Louis Spring Invitational.

Host and No. 4 ranked Washington University in St. Louis leads the field after turning in a 306. Illinois Wesleyan, who is tied for 15th in the latest national poll, sits in second with a 314. No. 11 ranked St. Catherine shot a 324 and is in third place while No. 24 ranked Grinnell turned in a team score of 326 to sit fourth. The Belles shot a 328 and are tied with WashU's B team for fifth place in the field of 13 scoring teams.

Sydney Kuo from Washington University in St. Louis shot an even-par 72 to lead the field individually heading into Sunday's round.

Katelyn Tokarz paced the Belles with a seven-over 79 and is tied for 12th place overall individually. The sophomore had just one score above a bogey in the round and turned in 12 pars, which put her in the top five in the field in pars for the round. She shared team-best honors with a +2 scoring effort on the front nine of the course.

Julia Lizak was two strokes back with an 81 and is tied for 17th. The freshman had a team-best three-over (39) scoring effort on the back nine and led the Belles with a pair of birdies - one on par three No. 15 and the second on par four No. 1. Lizak tallied eight pars on the day and was even on par three holes.

Katherine Hopkins and Isa Patacsil each shot rounds of 84 and are tied for 30th. Hopkins was two-over on the front nine, which included a birdie on par four No. 5 and five pars. Patacsil also circled a birdie on No. 5, was three-over on the front nine with five pars, and was among the round leaders in par four scoring.

Erin Bennett is the fifth player in the Saint Mary's lineup and shot an 85 and holds a share of 35th. The senior had eight pars in the round with the team's third-best back-nine score (42).

Breana Harrington and Joanna James are both competing as individuals at the tournament. James had a birdie on par four No. 18 and added six pars with a five-over effort on the front nine to shoot an 88 (46th). Harrington shot a 93 with five pars and is tied for 58th overall

Day two of the Washington University in St. Louis Spring Invitational is scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m. CDT at Crescent Farms Golf Club.
