CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. - Four members of the Saint Mary's golf team were recognized for their academic success throughout the 2023-24 academic year by the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA).
Haley Angel, Katelyn Tokarz, Amanda Melling, and Colleen Hand were four of 1,497 women's collegiate golfers from 412 programs recognized with this prestigious honor. A student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average and must have played in 50 percent of the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds nominated through the team's conference championship.
Angel competed in 20 rounds for the Belles in the 2023-24 academic year and had the second-best scoring average on the team in the spring segment. The senior shot a collegiate career-low round of 75 in the third MIAA Jamboree of the fall season. She was named conference Most Valuable Player after shooting a season total score of 476. This is the third WGCA All-American Scholar honor for Angel.
Tokarz played in 14 rounds of the year for the Belles. She shot season-low rounds of 76 in the fall and spring and had nine rounds at or below an 85. The junior co-captain has earned the third consecutive WGCA All-American Scholar honor of her career.
Melling competed in 19 rounds of golf for the Belles during her sophomore season. She had the second-best scoring average on the team in the fall segment and the third-best team scoring average in the spring. In the year, she posted seven rounds in the 70s. This is the first WCGA All-American Scholar recognition for Melling. Hand played in 18 rounds for the Belles in her freshman campaign. Throughout the course of the season, she had 11 rounds of golf shooting an 85 or lower. This is the first WGCA All-American Scholar honor for Hand. "Historically, the WGCA All-American Scholar award has the toughest criteria in all of collegiate athletics," said head coach Susan Holt. "These ladies have truly put in the work as student-athletes and they deserve to be recognized for a job well done!"
This year marks the first time the program has boasted four honorees on the scholar team. Additionally, Saint Mary's has been represented on the list each year since 2010.
