Belles Take Tenth at Talent-Packed Lynn Schweizer Invitational

GRANVILLE, Ohio - The Saint Mary's golf team turned in a 319 on Sunday and moved up a spot to claim tenth place at a highly-competitive Lynn Schweizer Invitational hosted by Denison.
 
No. 3 ranked Emory claimed the team title in a field which featured five top 25 teams and five teams receiving votes in the WGCA Coaches Preseason Poll. The Eagles went 291-292 to win with a combined score of 583. No. 13 ranked Centre was second after a 303 on Sunday gave the Colonels a 609. No. 2 ranked Washington University in St. Louis had a combined score of 611 for third, and No. 10 Methodist (619) and No. 17 Denison (621) rounded out the top five. Sharon Mun from Emory took the individual title on the weekend with a 71-71 performance for a two-stroke win over teammate Esther Jung's 74-70 (144).
 
Amanda Melling shaved six strokes off Saturday's efforts and shot a college career-low score of 77 to pace the Belles on Sunday. The sophomore was tied for 32nd overall on the weekend with a 160. Julia Lizak matched her day-one score with a 78 to take home a share of 18th place with a 156. 
 
Colleen Hand posted an 82 on Sunday and finished in a tie for 40th with a two-day effort of 163. Haley Angel also carded an 82 on day two and was tied for 51st with a 167 on the weekend. Breana Harrington was the fifth golfer in the Belles lineup and shot an 89 on Sunday while finishing tied for 65th with a 176.
 
The Belles will now prepare for the first MIAA Jamboree of the season, which will be hosted by Albion on Wednesday, September 14 at Cascades Golf Course in Jackson, Michigan.
