Belles Hold Share of Tenth at Illinois Wesleyan Fall Classic

NORMAL, Ill. - The Saint Mary's golf team shot a 315 and is tied for tenth after day one of the Illinois Wesleyan University Fall Classic.
 
No. 2 ranked Washington University in St. Louis holds the lead after the first round after posting a team even-par score of 288. Host No. 14 Illinois Wesleyan is in second with a 290, and No. 17 Denison is in third with a 294. Amy Beanblossom from Washington University in St. Louis shot a four-under par 68 to lead the field individually.
 
Amanda Melling, Colleen Hand, and Julia Lizak all shot matching rounds of 78 to pace the Belles. Amanda Melling went 42-36 on the day for Saint Mary's. Melling started on hole No. 1 and had three pars over her front-nine effort. She circled a birdie on par five No. 11, which kicked off a stretch of four consecutive pars. Melling added another birdie on par five No. 17 and ended her round with a par as the sophomore did not post a score above a bogey.
 
Julia Lizak went three-over with six pars on the front nine and also started her round on hole No. 1. Lizak birdies on par three No. 13 and par four No. 15 before ending the round with three consecutive pars. Lizak ended the day with ten total pars. Colleen Hand had a team-best 14 pars and went 40-38. The freshman had a string of five pars on the front nine and had seven consecutive pars from No. 12 through No. 18 on the back nine.
 
Haley Angel wrapped up the team score with an 81 (41-40). The senior tallied ten pars on the day for the Belles. Katelyn Tokarz turned in an 83 on the day (41-42) for the Belles. The junior had a birdie on par three No. 13 with eight pars.
 
Georgie Kersman is competing as an individual and started her round with a birdie on par four No. 18. She was even on the back nine for her 18-hole effort and added another birdie on par three No. 16. Kersman had seven total pars on day one.
 
Round two of the Illinois Wesleyan Fall Classic is set to tee off at 9:00 a.m. CDT on Sunday at Ironwood Golf Course.
