Belles Finish Tied for Tenth at Illinois Wesleyan Fall Classic

NORMAL, Ill. - The Saint Mary's golf team shot a 311 on Sunday and tied for tenth at the Illinois Wesleyan Fall Classic.
 
No. 2 ranked Washington University in St. Louis won the event with a two-day combined score of 584 after shooting a 296 on Sunday. Host No. 14 Illinois Wesleyan placed second with a 587, and Rose-Hulman climbed up to third with the best team score of the day of 295 to finish the event with a 600. No. 17 Denison placed fourth (610), and Grinell (RV) was fifth (614). Sydney Kuo from Washington University in St. Louis took the individual title with a 71 on Sunday for a one-stroke win with a 141.
 
Julia Lizak and Haley Angel led the Belles with matching rounds of 76 on Sunday. Lizak went 36-40 on Sunday and tied for 24th individually. She had eleven pars on the day to finish the tournament with 21 pars over 36 holes. Lizak circled birdies on par four No. 1 and par four No. 6 and tied for 13th in the field in par four scoring for the weekend. Angel, meanwhile, went 39-37 with seven pars and tied for 39th overall. The senior posted four birdies on the day - par four No. 2, par four No. 9, par five No. 11, and par four No.15. 
 
Colleen Hand turned in the best score of her young career with a 77 on day two of the event and finished 33rd overall. The freshman had a team-best 22 pars during the weekend after carding eight on Sunday. Hand went 38-39 with three birdies - par four No. 2, par four No. 6, and par five No. 7 - while finishing one-over par on par three holes during the tournament to tie for 20th in the field.
 
Amanda Melling shot an 82 on Sunday to wrap up the team score and finished tied for 56th. Melling finished her round on a tear with four consecutive pars before capping off the round with a birdie on par five No. 7. She added birdies on par five No. 11 and par four No. 14 to finish the event with a team-high five birdies. Her one-under performance on par five holes over 36 holes of play was tied for ninth among players in the field.
 
Katelyn Tokarz was the fifth golfer in the Belles lineup and shot an 87 to tie for 84th. The junior circled a birdie on par five No. 17 and added five pars. Tokarz tallied 13 pars over the weekend. Georgie Kersman competed as an individual at the tournament and shot a career-low 80 (39-41) on Sunday to tie for 61st. Kersman had nine pars on day two and posted a birdie on par four No. 15. She ended the tournament with 16 total pars.
 
The Belles are back in action next weekend at the Benedictine Midwest Region Classic in Kansasville, Wisconsin. The two-day tournament takes place September 22-23.
