Belles Win Opening MIAA Jamboree

JACKSON, Mich. - The Saint Mary's golf team shot a 326 and captured the win in the first MIAA Jamboree of the 2023 season on Thursday.
 
The Belles finished seven strokes ahead of Adrian (333) and 13 strokes in front of Calvin (339). Host Albion and Trine (347) rounded out the top five teams in the field. 
 
Julia Lizak captured medalist honors at the Cascades Golf Course with a 77 after going 39-38. The sophomore had a team-best 11 pars and had a birdie on par four No. 13 to end her round with no score above a bogey. Lizak registered five consecutive pars after making the turn from 18 to one after starting on the back nine.
 
Amanda Melling and Haley Angel both turned in matching rounds of 81. Melling posted nine pars in the round, which included making three in-a-row from No. 18 through No. 2. Angel, meanwhile, posted seven pars of her own and circled a birdie on par three No. 16.
 
Colleen Hand wrapped up the team win with an 87. The freshman tallied six pars on the day and had a birdie on par five No. 2. Katelyn Tokarz was the fifth golfer in the Belles' lineup and shot a 91. Tokarz collected five pars during the round.
 
Georgie Kersman competed as an individual at the event and shot a 90 while carding five pars.
 
The Belles are now set to travel to Illinois for the Illinois Wesleyan Fall Classic on Saturday and Sunday at Ironwood Golf Course. Both rounds begin at 9:00 a.m. CDT.
