Belles Tied for Second After Day One at Midwest Region Classic

KANSASVILLE, Wis. - The Saint Mary's golf team shot a 318 and is one stroke back of the lead after day one of the Midwest Region Classic at Brighton Dale Links.
 
Fellow MIAA member Adrian shot the low round of day one with a 317. Saint Mary's (318) is tied with No. 24 ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater for second in the of field 33 teams after 18 holes of play. Dubuque and MIAA member Hope are tied for fourth after matching rounds of 323.
 
Mackenzie Biggs from Central and Kallie Lux from Wisconsin-Whitewater both shot 74s on Friday and are tied for the top spot on the individual leaderboard.
 
Amanda Melling led the team scoring efforts for the Belles with a five-over 77 (38-39) on Friday and is tied for fourth overall. The sophomore had birdies on par four No. 9 and par four No. 18 and did not card a score above a bogey. Melling also added nine pars in the round and was even on par five holes. Julia Lizak turned in a 79 (41-38) on day one to hold a share of 18th overall. Lizak circled a birdie on par five No. 15 and added ten pars. She was also even par on par five holes on day one.
 
Haley Angel and Georgie Kersman wrapped up the team score with matching rounds of 81 and each hold a share of 29th place individually. Angel (42-39) had eight pars and circled a birdie on par four No. 4. The senior was also tied for 13th in the field in par four scoring on the day. Kersman (40-41), meanwhile, had birdies on par five No. 15 and par three No. 3 with seven pars in the round. She was even on par three holes, which was tied for third-best among players on day one. Colleen Hand turned in a 91 and is tied for124th in the field of nearly 200 golfers. Hand had seven pars on the day.
 
Joanna James, Katelyn Tokarz, and Breana Harrington are all competing as individuals at the tournament for the Belles. James matched her collegiate 18-hole low score with a 77 (36-41) and is tied for fourth overall. She had a birdie on par three No. 8 and collected eleven pars - tied for the ninth-most pars in the round - with no score above a bogey. Tokarz turned in an 82  and is tied for 37th after day one. She had a birdie on par four No. 2 and notched seven pars in the round. Harrington shot an 84 on day one of the 36-hole event and is tied for 55th. Harrington posted eight pars on Friday.
 
Round two of the 36-hole event begins at 8:00 a.m. CDT (9:00 a.m. EDT) on Saturday at Brighton Dale Links in Wisconsin.
