Belles Place Fifth at Midwest Region Classic

KANSASVILLE, Wis. - The Saint Mary's golf team shot a 325 and finished in fifth place at the Midwest Region Classic with a 643.
 
No. 24 Wisconsin-Whitewater shot a tournament-best 305 and took first place with a combined score of 623. Adrian had  311 and was second (628) while Dubuque took third with a 637. Augustana edged Saint Mary's by four strokes with a 639 to take fourth.
 
Kallie Lux from Wisconsin-Whitewater claimed the individual title with a 148 after shooting a 74 on Saturday.

Georgie Kersman led the Belles on day two with a career-low 79 (39-40) and finished tied for 26th with a combined score of 160. Kersman had a birdie on par five No. 5 with nine pars and no scores above a bogey. She finished the tournament one-over on par five holes to tie for the ninth-best scoring effort.
 
Haley Angel turned in an 81 (41-40) on day two and finished tied for 36th with a 36-hole score of 162. Angel had a birdie on par four No. 16 with eight pars. The senior tied for 12th among players in the field in par four scoring. Julia Lizak shot an 82 on Saturday and finished tied for 28th with a 161. The sophomore carded back-to-back birdies on par four No. 12 and par five No. 13. Lizak had six total pars in the round and matched Kersman's one-over scoring on par five holes.
 
Amanda Melling shot an 83 to wrap up the team score and finish the tournament tied for 26th with a 160. Melling was two-over on par three holes to tie for 15th among all players. Colleen Hand turned in an 89 on day two and finished tied for 121st with a 180. Hand tallied seven pars in the round.
 
 
Katelyn Tokarz, Breana Harrington, and Joanna James all competed as individuals at the tournament. Tokarz shot a season-low 18-hole score of 76 (37-39) on Saturday and tied for 19th (158). The junior had birdies on par four No. 2 and par four No. 18. Tokarz collected ten pars on the day and did not have a score above a bogey. Her three birdies on the weekend put her in the top 20 in the field. Harrington carded an 84 and finished the tournament tied for 64th (168). Harrington registered ten pars on Saturday. Joanna James shot an 85 and finished the weekend tied for 36th (162). James had eight pars on day two and ended the tournament with 19 pars to lead the Belles.
 
The Belles now look to the final three MIAA Jamborees of the fall season. Saint Mary's travels to Calvin's home course of Thornapple Pointe for a jamboree on Wednesday, September 27 starting at 1:00 p.m.
