HARROD, Ohio - The Saint Mary's golf team shot a 323 and sits six strokes back from the top of the leaderboard after day one of the Polar Beaver Classic hosted at Hidden Creek Golf Club by Bluffton and Ohio Northern.

 

Co-host Ohio Northern holds first place after a 317 on Friday. The College of Wooster sits in second place with a 322, and Saint Mary's is third with a 323. Mount St. Joseph (325) and Alma (329) round out the top five teams in the field. Wooster's Grace Lindgren shot a two-over par 74 to hold first place in the individual standings.

 

Katelyn Tokarz led the Belles with a four-over 76 and is tied for second place individually. Tokarz went 37-39 with birdies on par four No. 9 and par five No. 10. The junior was tied for the best par four scoring (+3) on the day, was one under on par five holes, added 11 pars, was tied for the second-most pars and birdies. 

 

Julia Lizak shot an 81 and holds a share of tenth place. The sophomore was three-over on the back nine with eight total pars in the round. Lizak circled a birdie on par four No. 11, was tied for fifth in par four scoring, added a one-over effort on par fives, and was in the top 22 in total pars.

 

Haley Angel and Joanna James wrapped up the team score with matching scores of 83 and are tied for 21st place. Angel posted seven pars with a birdie on par four No. 13 and was tied for eighth in par three scoring (+1). James tallied ten pars in the round and was tied for fifth in par five scoring (E).

 

Colleen Hand turned in an 85 and is tied for 28th. The freshman posted six pars with birdies on par five No. 8 and par four No. 13. Her two birdies tied her for the second-most in the field on day one.

 

Amanda Melling is competing as an individual and posted an 84 (t-25th) for the best score among individuals in the field. Melling had eight pars in the round.

 

Day two of the tournament tees off at 10:00 a.m. at Colonial Golfers Club in Lima, Ohio.
