NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Saint Mary's lacrosse team erupted with program records for goals in a game and assists in a game while posting just the second shut out in the past six years with a 26-0 win over Franklin on Thursday evening.

 

Kendra Osinski put the Belles on the scoreboard 48 seconds in to the game, and Erin Doyle registered back-to-back goals in the span of 34 seconds for a quick 3-0 advantage. Raigan Althouse and Kate Kelly each chipped in a goal as the Grizzlies called for a timeout less than three minutes into the contest.

 

The Belles doubled that lead to 10-0 9:40 into the game to implement the running clock with Molly Stout, Doyle, and Gabby Belsito all getting into the scoring action. The offense continued to flow for the home side as six of the next nine goals came off of assists for the Belles while Saint Mary's built a 19-0 lead through the first half of play. The Belles won the first 17 draw controls of the game while limiting the Grizzlies to one successful clear on seven attempts through the first 30 minutes of play.

 

Saint Mary's went on to out-score Franklin 7-0 over the second half of play. The Grizzlies had their best scoring opportunity of the game at the 19:49 mark in the second half as a foul by the Belles gave Franklin a free position attempt. The defense, however, immediately closed ground on the potential shooter as the Grizzlies turned over the ball before getting off a shot.

 

The Belles out-shot the visiting Grizzlies by a 42-0 margin, marking the first time the team has held an opponent without a shot in program history. Additionally, the team tallied 12 assists to set a new program record, surpassing the previous mark of 11 which was posted twice during the 2017 season.

 

Erin Doyle led all players with a school-record 10 goals while also tallying two assists and four draw controls. Kendra Osinski added four goals and two ground balls while Kate Kelly chipped in two goals, four assists, four ground balls, and 11 draw controls. Rachael Leonard had two goals, an assist, five ground balls, and three caused turnovers. Molly Stout registered three goals with an assist. Bridget Kane had three assists, and Gabby Belsito added an assist as Kane, Belsito, Liv Heppeler, Raigan Althouse, and Shannon McCloskey each tallied a goal.

 

The Belles (3-3) are back in action on Saturday when they host Carroll (Wisconsin) at 3:00 p.m.
