Three Belles Earn All-Region Honors

GRAND LAKE, Colo. - Saint Mary's lacrosse players Erin Doyle, Kate Kelly, and Rachael Leonard were all named to the Great Lakes Region Second Team by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA), marking the first time in program history multiple Belles were tabbed as All-Region by the organization.
 
The trio were three of 16 Division III women's lacrosse players to be named to the Great Lakes Region Second Team for the 2019 season. The region is comprised of programs from Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, Ohio, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and part of Pennsylvania. An additional 16 student-athletes were named to the First Team for the same region. Eight regions are represented with All-Region selections by the IWLCA.
 
Erin Doyle, a sophomore midfielder from Niskayuna, New York, is among the top ten players Division III women's lacrosse in goals, goals per game, points, points per game, shots per game, and shots on goal per game for the 2019 season. As of the May 19 statistical ranking by the NCAA, she was fifth in total goals (104), fourth in goals per game (5.78), sixth in points (127), eighth in points per game (7.06), fourth in shots per game (11.06), and eighth in shots on goal per game (8.33) among all Division III women's lacrosse players. The 2019 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Most Valuable Offensive Player, Doyle is the first player in program history to amass 100 goals in a single season for the Belles.
 
Kate Kelly, a senior midfielder from Orland Park, Illinois, is listed among the national leaders in ground balls per game, assists, assists per game, caused turnovers per game, draw controls per game, points, points per game, goals, goals per game, shots per game, and shots on goal per game. In the latest statistical ranking, she was eighth in ground balls per game (5.50), 49th in assists (41), 48th in assists per game (2.28), 35th in caused turnovers per game (2.78), 15th in draw controls per game (7.56), 51st in points (94), 61st in points per game (5.22), 144th in goals (53), 198th in goals per game (2.94), 161st in shots per game (6.56), and 114th in shots on goal per game (5.44).
 
Rachael Leonard, a senior defender from Hendersonville, Tennessee, is listed among the 2019 national leaders in caused turnovers per game and ground balls per game. She was listed 20th in caused turnovers per game (2.94) and ninth in ground balls per game (5.39) in the most recent NCAA statistical rankings. She was second among all defenders in ground balls per game nationally and eighth among defenders in caused turnovers per contest for the 2019 season.
 
It is the second consecutive year Saint Mary's has been represented on the All-Region squad as Doyle was named to the Second Team last season. It is the first All-Region accolade for Kelly and Leonard.
 
The IWLCA has honored 256 student-athletes in Division III with a selection to one of the All-Region teams for 2019. Visit the IWLCA website for the complete list of honoree. The national IWLCA All-American team will be announced in mid-June.
