ANGOLA, Ind. - The Saint Mary's lacrosse team opened the game on a seven-goal scoring streak and never looked back in a 16-7 conference win at Trine on Saturday.

 

Erin Doyle converted a turnover into a goal in transition early in the game to give Saint Mary's a 1-0 advantage 1:31 into play. A little over two minutes later, it was Doyle again who scored in transition for the Belles to double the lead. Kate Kelly buried a free position shot with 22:05 on the clock, and Bridget Kane assisted Molly Stout on a goal 31 seconds later for a 4-0 lead for Saint Mary's. Another quick win on the draw led to an Erin Doyle goal 11 seconds later as the Belles were in control of the scoreboard less than ten minutes into play.

 

Doyle added her fourth goal, and Kendra Osinski scored on a free position after a yellow card for a 7-0 lead for the Belles. Trine got into the scoring column with 16:56 on the clock, but Shannon McCloskey scored on a pass from Kelly before Doyle sent home two more goals for a 10-1 score. Bridget Kane found the back of the net almost five minutes later to make it 11-2, but the Thunder quickly put a halt to the running clock with a player-up goal with 4:49 on the clock. Kane won the ensuing draw, and Kelly scored 30 seconds later to start the running clock back up at 12-2. Another draw control by Kane followed by a pass to Doyle led to another goal by the high-scoring sophomore as the Belles took a 13-2 lead into halftime.

 

Kate Kelly and Erin Doyle each added a free position goal in the second half, and Doyle scored late in the period as the Belles held off any thoughts of a comeback by the Thunder in a 16-7 final.

 

Saint Mary's earned 20 draw controls to Trine's five as the Belles out-shot the Thunder 36-18 in the contest.

 

Erin Doyle surpassed 200 career points with nine goals as she added five ground balls and two draw controls. Kate Kelly had three goals, two assists, ten draw controls, and four ground balls in the win. Bridget Kane registered multiple points with a goal and an assist while also pulling down seven draw controls. Shannon McCloskey, Molly Stout, and Kendra Osinski each added a goal. Emily Kraker made ten saves in goal on her way to the win.

 

The Belles (7-4, 3-0 MIAA) play host to the University of Chicago on Sunday in a rescheduled contest from March 5. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
