NEWBERG, Ore. - Saint Mary's College Lacrosse fell to Sewanee on Monday night to open their spring break trip, 18-1. The Belles fall to 1-2 while the Tigers improve to 6-0.
Sewanee got out to a fiery start, scoring four goals in the first five minutes. The Tigers would continue their offensive domination, leading 10-0 after one quarter.
The Saint Mary's defense would step up early in the second quarter, holding Sewanee scoreless in the first seven minutes of the quarter. But the Tigers would add two more onto their lead before the Belles would get on the board from a free position goal from sophomore Kathryn Kalinowski (Atlanta, GA).
Sewanee would tack on four more goals in the third quarter and two more in the fourth to finish off Saint Mary's, 18-1.
Kalinowski, senior Paige Lyons (Hinsdale, IL), and junior Mary Grace Heekin (Fayetteville, GA) would all record a shot for the Belles while sophomore Cate Shepherd (Bay Village, OH) would lead the team with six ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Senior goalkeeper Emma Zmudzinski (Granger, IN) would record eight saves in the first half of play while freshman goalkeeper Kaya Seaboy (Evansville, IN) would record three in her second appearance of the season.
