MONTGOMERY, Ill. - Saint Mary's College Lacrosse fell to Aurora University on Wednesday night, 14-5. The Belles fall to 1-4 on the year while the Spartans improve to 3-5.
Saint Mary's would come out and get on the scoreboard quickly as sophomore Rachel Speckhard (Munster, IN) would score less than 70 seconds into the game off an assist from sophomore Lana Skibins (Granger, IN). Aurora would come out and tie the game back up less than a minute later before senior Valentina Rubio (Wayland, MI) would score just 15 seconds later off a free position shot to give the Belles the lead again. However, the Spartans offense would get hot, scoring three straight goals to take their first lead of the night. But Rubio would cut the lead back to one with a goal at the 4:19 mark off of an assist from freshman Piper Downey (Northbrook, IL).
Aurora would come out and score another goal to open the second quarter before the teams would endure a 90 minute weather delay. After the delay, the Spartans would add four more goals onto their lead, going into halftime with a 9-3 advantage.
Aurora would add two more goals in the third quarter before Skibins would add a goal of her own to the Belles tally. The Spartans would continue to add on to their lead, scoring three goals in the fourth quarter before Speckhard would add her second goal of the night while the Belles were a man up to finish the scoring for both teams on the night.
Rubio and Speckhard would each record two goals while Skibins would add one of her own. Skibins and Downey would record the two assists for the Belles on the night. Rubio would lead the team with four shots while her and Speckhard would both record team best three shots on goal. Sophomore Kelsey King (Sylvania, OH) would lead the team with six ground balls while sophomore Sophia Delgado (Indianapolis, IN) would lead the team with four caused turnovers.
Senior goalkeeper Emma Zmudzinski (Granger, IN) would record six saves on the night while freshman Kaya Seaboy (Evansville, IN) would record nine of her own.

Saint Mary's finishes their long road trip to open the season on Saturday as they travel to take on Anderson University at 3:30pm. The Belles then return home on Wednesday, March 26, for their home opener as they host North Central College for a 5pm matchup.
