Belles Dominate in Win Over Ravens

ANDERSON, Ind. - Saint Mary's College Lacrosse earned a dominating win over Anderson University on Saturday, 17-5. The Belles improve to 2-4 on the year while the Ravens fall to 2-5.

Saint Mary's would get out to a hot start offensively, as senior Valentina Rubio (Wayland, MI) would score just 13 seconds into the game. Less than two minutes later, sophomore Lana Skibins (Granger, IN) would add onto the Belles lead with a goal of her own. Anderson would try and come right back with back-to-back goals of their own. But the Belles offense would stay red hot, scoring four goals with less than 3:16 in the first quarter. Skibins would add her second goal before Annabelle Spruill (Brookhaven, GA) would add her first of the game. Skibins would then secure her first quarter hattrick before sophomore Cate Krema (Western Springs, IL) would finish off the quarter with a goal of her own. Rubio, Skibins and junior Mary Grace Heekin (Fayetteville, GA) would all add assists in the quarter.

Saint Mary's would continue to dominate, outscoring Anderson 4-0 in the second quarter. Skibins would start the quarter with her fourth goal at the 11:38 mark before sophomore Kathryn Kalinowski (Atlanta, GA) would add her first of the day. Spruill would then add her second on the game before Skibins would add her fifth goal of the first half with just ten seconds to play in the half. Krema and freshman Piper Downey (Northbrook, IL) would record assists in the quarter as Saint Mary's would go into halftime with a 10-2 lead.

The Ravens would come out and score two goals to open the scoring in the third quarter before the Belles would go right back to work. Krema would add her second goal of the day before Rubio would add two goals of her own with only 60 seconds to play in the quarter to complete her hattrick. Skibins would also record her second assist.

Krema would come out in the fourth quarter and score two goals in the first three minutes to secure her hattrick, the third Belle to record a hattrick on the game. Saint Mary's would add two more goals less than 10 minutes into the quarter as Rubio and Kalinowski would find the back of the net. Anderson would also add a final goal on the day with 19 seconds to play.

Skibins would lead the Belles with five goals on the day while both Krema and Rubio would each record four. Spruill and Kalinowski would also add two goals each for Saint Mary's. Skibins would also lead the team with two assists. Rubio would lead the game with eight shots as the Belles would outshoot the Ravens 31-13. Rubio would join Skibins and Krema with six shots on goal as the Belles would put up 24 shots on goal to Anderson's nine. Saint Mary's would also win 17 of the 25 draw controls and complete 15 of 18 clears.

Senior goalkeeper Emma Zmudzinski (Granger, IN) would earn her second win of the season, making two saves on four shots faced in the first half while freshman Kaya Seaboy (Evansville, IN) would make two saves on five shots faced in the second half.

Saint Mary's returns home to host North Central College for their home opener on March 26 at the Purcell Athletic Fields. The match originally scheduled for 5pm has been changed to a 6pm start time. The Belles will then host the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on March 29 at 1pm for Senior Day.
